BatMonitor — Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 8, 2026
Version: 1.4

Summary

BatMonitor is a battery monitoring application that connects to compatible Battery Management Systems (BMS) over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

BatMonitor does not require user accounts and does not operate its own servers for storing battery information.

Battery names, Bluetooth identifiers and saved battery readings are stored locally on your device. BatMonitor does not intentionally transmit your BMS readings or battery information to its developer or advertising providers.

The Android version includes third-party advertising provided by the advertising network Adsterra, served via bicea.org. Loading advertisements may involve the processing of technical information such as your IP address and browser or device information, as described in Adsterra's own privacy policy.

The iOS version does not include third-party advertising.

1. Data Controller

The developer and controller of the personal data processed directly by BatMonitor is:

andyechc

BatMonitor is an independent personal project. It is not operated by a company and has no appointed Data Protection Officer.

3. Data Processed by BatMonitor

3.1. Information Stored Locally

When you add a battery, BatMonitor stores the following information in the application's private storage:

  • The name assigned to the battery. By default, this may be the name advertised by the BMS.
  • The Bluetooth identifier (UUID) required to reconnect to the selected BMS.
  • The date the battery was added.
  • The last received battery reading, including state of charge (SOC), voltage, current and reception date/time.

Storage mechanisms:

  • Android: SharedPreferences.
  • iOS: UserDefaults.

This information is stored locally and is not transmitted to the developer's servers.

3.2. Live BMS Information

When connected to a compatible battery, BatMonitor communicates with the BMS through Bluetooth Low Energy.

Depending on the BMS model and supported protocol, the application may read:

  • Total battery voltage.
  • Charging and discharging current.
  • Remaining and nominal capacity.
  • State of charge (SOC).
  • Battery cycles.
  • Individual cell voltages.
  • NTC sensor temperatures.
  • Active protection states.
  • Charge and discharge switch (FET) states.
  • Cell balancing status.
  • Number of cells and temperature sensors.
  • BMS firmware version.
  • Date and time information reported by the BMS.

This information is displayed locally.

Except for the last reading described in section 3.1, live readings are not permanently stored by BatMonitor.

BatMonitor does not transmit BMS readings to its developer or advertising providers.

The application may also send supported control commands to the selected BMS over Bluetooth, such as changing its name, enabling balancing, clearing protections or controlling charge and discharge switches.

These operations are performed through the local Bluetooth connection.

3.3. Bluetooth Discovery Information

When searching for nearby batteries, BatMonitor temporarily processes information advertised by discovered Bluetooth devices, including:

  • Advertised device name.
  • Bluetooth identifier.
  • Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI).

Discovery results are kept in memory during the scanning process.

Only the battery selected by the user is saved, according to section 3.1.

3.4. Application Update Checks (Android Only)

When the Android application starts, BatMonitor performs a GET request to:

https://andyechc.is-a.dev/batmonitor/api/version.json

This request checks whether a newer application version is available.

The request does not intentionally include:

  • Your battery names.
  • Your BMS readings.
  • Your Bluetooth identifiers.
  • Your account information.
  • Your installed application version as a user identifier.

The hosting infrastructure (GitHub Pages and its associated delivery infrastructure) may automatically process standard technical information associated with an HTTPS request, such as IP address, request date/time and User-Agent.

This communication is used exclusively to retrieve the version manifest.

The iOS application does not perform this update check.

3.5. Information BatMonitor Does Not Collect

BatMonitor does not implement its own collection of:

  • User accounts or registration information.
  • Names, email addresses or telephone numbers.
  • Contacts.
